a little story about me (part 1)

First off, so happy you are here. Welcome to this new cozy spot on the website. A place where I hope to share inspiration, color adoration and some helpful tips and tricks to fitting your creative spirit into your daily life.

My name is Stephanie and I have been an artist since I was little. Yes, one of those little girls who you could find in the corner with her crayons and paper. My go-to was the sunday comics and I was obsessed with Snoopy and the Peanuts Gang. I practiced drawing them so much, I can still draw them from memory!

Fast forward to “what do you want to do with your life” questions as high school was ending and all I could say was “be an artist”. This was 1987, and my guidance counselor looked me in the eye and said “no, what other option do you have?” Needless to say, I left in a huff and told him what he could do with his options.

I went on to go to Massachusetts College of Art where I graduated with a BFA degree in fashion design. Why? Not sure. At the time, I thought I would just be drawing the designs…I had no idea I would have to sew them! Day 1 of that program was an eye opener! I left school knowing how to design and sew wedding gowns, fancy dresses and even lingerie and bathing suits. It was a beautiful fun time but also a time where I struggled to fit in and felt as though I was constantly defending who I was as an artist.

The pull to go to the New York fashion world was there, but I had also met someone who I knew deep down was more aligned with who I was than a career in the high pressures of NYC. I decided to stay in New England and set off on a series of adventures that eventually would lead me exactly where I needed to be.

More to come next time!
